Who among us has not dreamed of adventures on the frontier or wondered about our industrial past? Who has never wished to be a small part of history, to make a mark in the annals of time? In our modern world of face paced schedules and changing technology, the wonders of the past sometimes seem as elusive as the real frontier. However, today we can make all those dreams a reality.

With the adaptive use of the old Marketplace, the Heritage Center continues the revitalization of the downtown city/county center and allows us to recapture the thrill of the first discovery through the historical memorabilia of our area. As Members in the Clark County Historical Society, we have the opportunity to leave a legacy to the future. By insuring the permanent establishment of the Heritage Center of Clark County, we will not only continue to make history, but also establish a permanent home as living proof of the rich past of Clark County and Ohio. If we join now, we will help ensure the transition to the Marketplace into a museum that will allow our children to experience the wonders of their past and to learn firsthand the importance of their history.

It started over 100 years ago with the dream of a group of Civil War veterans. With the support of the Bureau of Trade, the county commission, the local Lagonda Chapter of the DAR, and a group of Springfield’s top philanthropists and industrialists, it became a reality.

The Clark County Historical Society and a fledgling museum were founded on October 2, 1897 . From this humble beginning, the Clark County Historical Society has assembled a collection of artifacts that, experts agree, is one of the best in the United States.
